If you are planning on doing a lot of fly fishing, I’d go to Cabellas, Bass Pro Shops or Orvis and get their catalogs. If you are just starting out, go to Walmart. They’ve got an entire kit for less than $50.00 and there are instructions on how to set up the rod and reel and how to cast properly.
It’s also suggested that you find a local shop and talk with the employees. They may offer suggestions on polls as they relate to the area you are living in, as well as other needed equipment, types of flys. etc. I tie my own flys and get my supplies from a local shop.
One word of advice: Find what you like in the ORVIS catalog and then purchase the equivelent from Cabellas. The price is less and the quality is still high.
