I am an engineering student trying to construct a fly fishing reel in Solidworks but cannot find the dimensions of the fly fishing reel anywhere on the internet. I need not only the diameter, width, but also the dimensions of the holes, and etc. My team and I would highly appreciate it if someone could take the time with a ruler to measure this out for us. Thank you so much!
To clarify, it does not matter what size or anything. Just any general fly reel. We are trying to possibly head in a child’s direction but this is not a necessity.
Again, it doesnt matter about size. We just need a general dimension to complete this project. We can figure out proportions later on but we can’t find any dimensions whatsoever.

picture a tuna can… and then make it a little larger (about 4-41/2 inches in diameter and about an inch and a half wide) about that exact size and shape generally. The numerous holes around the entire reel (that make it look like swiss cheese) are slightly smaller than the diameter of a pencil. The groove around the entire spool where the line fits in is about an 11/2—2 inches deep. The ’spool’ in the very center is anywhere from 1/2 — 3/4 inches in diameter. Hope that gives you an idea.

there are many different sizes of fly-reels. i depends on what weight line you are using, how much backing you need, salt water or fresh water. way too many variables to consider with the limited information you gave.
here is a link to a pdf page with specs for a variety of different size reels.

i would have thought that engineering students would know how to use google.

hey man, fly reels comes in all different sizes it all depends on the model and make. if i was you i would take a trip to the local bait and tackle shop and just measure one if you had a certain particular one in mind. i have one that is 3 inches in diameter but there are smaller ones and then there are reels that are twice the size of mine. man i am sorry that i couldnt be of anymore help. it is just that your question is very broad. good fishin
