Special warning/alarm lights?
I am looking to install warning/alarm lights in the break rooms at my company for those people working in the call center. Basically, I need to tie these lights and some kind of software to a SQL DB so they will go off when our call center hits a certain threshold...does any know where I can find, or even begin to look for these?
I don't know of any off the shelf applications or hardware that would be usable without some level of software programming and mods to your applications.
Generally you add an interface card or device to your PC that give it the ability to open and close relay contacts. THe contacts from the relays operate your alarm lights etc.
Depending upon how far the room is from your PC and teh number of PC's you need to monitor will dictate the type of interface and its wiring to/from the break room.
These hardware interfaces can be PCI cards, Serial Port (RS232) , USE or Ethernet devices. What you choose to use will depend upon the distance the PC is away from the alarm lights, the necessary amount of reliability these systems can provide vs there limitations, and the size of your wallet....
It you have technically capable people that can handle a soldering iron and can program in BASIC you can use a simple hobbyist micro controller called a BASIC Stamp (parallax.com) . The Basic Stamp would require an individual to wire the stamp for I/O and program it for use with the serial port of a PC.
