The Tournaments For Poker Are Done For Magnanimous Causes Like The One For Darfur
Playing poker online may be the main reason for the heady success of online casinos the world over, but the casino game has been instrumental in helping with global issues. Such wide popularity pushed boundaries in all directions and the entire world became its niche, and it must be noted that so much jackpots and prizes are given during championship meets.
It must be put in mind that the winnings are not totally consumed by the gambling pros of poker. The wins are also donated for noble causes like feeding hungry millions in devastated regions of the world. War, ethnic unrest over decades and poverty go together leaving horrors and deaths in their trail. Because of this, champions in poker like Cheadle, Norman Epstein and Annie Duke started raising funds for Africa in 2006 to aid bring about peace in the war-inflicted region of Sudan known as Darfur.
They started off with a poker tournament that got celebrities from the world over for raising tens of thousands of dollars to help those rendered homeless and on the verge of dying from hunger and malnutrition. Due to the presence of top celebrities in the show, more avid gaming enthusiasts are lured to be on the tournament to see the great personalities and to see how it feels to rub elbows with them.
About $2.5 million was reached
The attained success of such magnanimity was possible because of exceptional popularity of the casino game played over the internet, which gathered millions of participants from different parts of the world. Hundreds of thousands of participants are willing to invest their time in such game because they do not have to leave their rooms. Apart from being a thrilling entertainment, poker has become an interest to the experienced gambler and newcomer alike because of its support to charity for the people of Africa. Unbelievably, the amount of cash collected during the first day for the charity went beyond what was expected.
Instead of the expected $20,000 to $30,000, the first day's take was $700,000. Years following the founding of the Africa fund raising charity, nearly two and a half million dollars has been collected as an aid to the people of Darfur. And the group moves around the world from Las Vegas to Monte Carlo to hold poker tournaments and collect money.

AMERICAN IDOL: Am I the only one pissed that Felicia Barton wasn't picked as wildcard?
She did great and Jasmine Murray made it? she was plain horrible. Tatiana del Toro? Looks like Idol is trying to lure more controversies this season and Matt G.? His version of Viva La Vida sucked so bad. Others were pretty good though but how on earth could Felicia not be picked as wildcard? Her voice is much superior than ALL of the wildcard contestants chosen. Atleast they didn't let Norman Gentle in, geez.
She was definitely good and probably should have been given a wild card spot but I was reaaaaaaaaaaaaally disappointed that Ju'Not Joyner didn't get another shot. He was absolutely wonderful last night! What is it with the guys when they sing "Hey there, Delilah"? Isn't that what Jamar sang also during Hollywood week? With the exception of a few of the contestants-- American Idol seems pretty blah this year!!!
